While photographs taken outdoors seem completely normal to us now this was not always the case. When W. Grundy took this photograph sometime between 1855 and 1865 rustic outdoor views like this were novel items. Stereo-views like this one were the first mass produced photographs and as a result popularised the works of W. Grundy, who was one of the masters of the rustic genre. This detail of one of his stereo-views is notable for the careful way the trees have been tinted to enhance the shadow effects of the sun.
