Earthenware vessels by Sang Woo Kim

Through his work, the young most talented Korean cermist Sang Woo Kim transmit the image of his ancestors of centuries past, his vessels expressing vividly the characteristic spirit of the Korean people, a spirit that has remained through the centuries until the present day.

Sang Woo Kim’s earthenware vessels and cups are formed using the traditional hammered clay method. Naturalness, rough perhaps, but beautiful and imperfect, as far from the industrial or Western studio pottery as the moon is away from the earth.

The mystery attached to this beauty of imperfection. Imperfection is of little matter. Indeed imperfection and asymmetry enhanced rather than detracted.
