Harbin ice festival – China
Coxsoft Art News – 11.01.2008
One of the largest ice art events in the world is the annual Ice and Snow Festival at Harbin, capital of Heilongjiang province in northeast China. The artists use chainsaws to cut architectural sculptures large enough to walk through. The festival attracts thousands of tourists and has become the city’s biggest source of income; but global warming has reached even this frozen province. The sculptures are beginning to melt in the winter sunshine and the festival may end earlier than usual.
